Craps: The Craps Table Layout and Bets

The player can make the Pass Line, Don't Pass, Big 6 & 8, Field, Come and Don't Come bets without assistance from the dealer.
These are called "Self-service bets".

Most craps tables in casinos today are the double layout style where the bets are exactly the same on both ends of the table and requires a minimum of two base dealers to deal the game.

At the center of the table are boxes for the proposition bets, most are one roll bets. The only non one roll bets are the all day hardways bets located at the top center of the proposition bets.

Boxes marked 4, 5, Six, 8, Nine, and 10 are for "Place", "Come" or "Buy" bets and marking the point for the current game in progress. Six and nine are spelled out so there is no confusion for either the dealer or player as to what number is in the box.

Self-service Bets

These are the nine (9) bets the player can make without any assistance from the dealer. The player is responsible for picking up any winning wagers that have been paid or the wager "rides" or " plays where it lays" for the next roll.

In front of the players is the "PASS LINE", a box that extends all around the table for players who are betting with the dice.
The "Don't Pass" box is for players betting against the dice.
The areas marked "Come" and "Don't Come" are for bets similar to Pass and Don't Pass but are placed only after a point has been established.

Also on the layout in front of the players is an area marked "Field".

Down in the left or right corner at either end of the double layout are boxes marked 6 and 8, the "Big 6" and "Big 8" bets. Some casinos, as those in Atlantic City, do not offer these bets.

E Circle (Eleven): E Circle (Eleven). E stands for Eleven. It is a one roll bet on the 11.
Pays: 15 to 1 (16 for 1) if the 11 rolls
E Eleven bet can be made at any time.
C Circle (Craps): C Circle (Craps). C stands for Craps. It is a one roll bet
on the three craps numbers 2,3 and 12.
Pays: 7 to 1 (8 for 1) if a 2, 3 or 12 rolls
C Craps bet can be made at any time.
C and E: C and E is a wager split between the Craps and Eleven.
It is a one roll bet
on the three craps numbers 2,3 and 12 and the 11.
Pays: 3 to 1 if a 2, 3 or 12 rolls and
Pays: 7 to 1 if the 11 rolls.
C and E bet can be made at any time.
Seven: Seven. It is a one roll bet on the number 7.
Pays: 4 to 1 (5 for 1)
The Seven bet can be made at any time.
Any Craps: Any Craps. It is a one roll bet on the three craps numbers 2,3 and 12.
Pays: 7 to 1 (8 for 1)
Any Craps bet can be made at any time.
Three: Three. It is a one roll bet on the number 3.
Pays: 15 to 1 (16 for 1)
The Three bet can be made at any time.
Eleven: Eleven. It is a one roll bet on the number 11.
Pays: 15 to 1 (16 for 1)
The Eleven bet can be made at any time.
Two: Two. Also called "snake eyes".
It is a one roll bet on the number 2.
Pays: 30 to 1 (31 for 1)
The Two bet can be made at any time.
Twelve: Twelve. Also called "box cars". It is a one roll bet on the number 12.
Pays: 30 to 1 (31 for 1)
The Twelve bet can be made at any time.
Hard Eight: Hard Eight. It is an "all day" bet on a hardway 8.
Must roll the way it is pictured to win.
Pays: 9 to 1 (10 for 1)
The Hard Eight bet can be made at any time.
Hard Six: Hard Six. It is an "all day" bet on a hardway 6.
Must roll the way it is pictured to win.
Pays: 9 to 1 (10 for 1)
The Hard Six bet can be made at any time.
Hard Four: Hard Four. It is an "all day" bet on a hardway 4.
Must roll the way it is pictured to win.
Pays: 7 to 1 (8 for 1)
The Hard Four bet can be made at any time.
Hard Ten: Hard Ten. It is an "all day" bet on a hardway 10.
Must roll the way it is pictured to win.
Pays: 7 to 1 (8 for 1)

9 Self Service Bets

PASS LINE: PASS LINE is a self-service bet placed in front of the player in the PASS LINE box. On come out roll, wins on a 7 or 11. Loses on a 2, 3 or 12. Otherwise can only win if the point number rolls before the 7.
C7 When the Pass Line bet wins, it wins slightly more than 45% of the time on the come out roll. The BEST time to make the pass line bet is on the come out roll.

Example: Come out Roll for Pass Line bet
7 or 11 Wins. called a natural. There are 8 ways to win from the combinations of the dice.
2, 3 or 12 loses. called a natural. There are 4 ways to lose from the dice combinations.
If the come out roll is a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10, that becomes the current game's established POINT.
For the Pass line to win, the POINT number now must roll before the 7 rolls.
Points 4 & 10 have 3 ways to win and 6 ways to lose
Points 5 & 9 have 4 ways to win and 6 ways to lose
Points 6 & 8 have 5 ways to win and 6 ways to lose

PASS LINE Odds: PASS LINE Odds bet is a self-service bet placed an inch behind the pass line bet between the pass line wager and the player. Odds bet can ONLY be made after a point is established. Can be removed at any time.

Example: Point established is a 6. That happened with a roll of a 6 on the come out roll.
Player can take Odds (from the table minimum to the table maximum odds factor)
Player places $10 odds behind his $5 pass line bet.
Six rolls and the pass line and odds wagers both win.
Pass Line $5 wager pays $5, but the $10 odds wager pays $12. (does not sound like much but it is 20% more than being paid even money. More than what your bank pays you on your money!)
4 & 10 odds pay: 2 to 1
5 & 9 odds pay: 3 to 2
6 & 8 odds pay: 6 to 5

Don't Pass: Don't Pass is a self-service bet placed in front of the player in the Don't Pass box. This bet can ONLY be made on a come out roll.
Bar 12 (or bar 2 found in some northern Nevada casinos) means the bet is a standoff or a push. The bet does not win or lose.

Example: Come out Roll for Don't Pass bet
7 or 11 - Loses.
2 or 3 - Wins.
12 is a push or tie.
If the come out roll is a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10, that becomes the current game's established POINT.
For the Don't Pass to win, the 7 must roll before the POINT number. The don't pass bettor ALWAYS wants a 7 to roll when there is a point established on any number.
Point is 4 or 10 Don't Pass has 6 ways to win and 3 ways to lose
Point is 5 or 9 Don't Pass has 6 ways to win and 4 ways to lose
Point is 6 or 8 Don't Pass has 6 ways to win and 5 ways to lose

Don't Pass Odds: Don't Pass Odds Self-service odds bet placed next to the don't pass bet.
Odds bet can be removed at any time.

Example: Point established is an 8. That happened with a roll of a 8 on the come out roll.
Player can lay the Odds (from the table minimum to the table maximum odds factor)
Player places $12 odds next to his $5 don't pass wager.
Seven rolls and the don't pass and odds wagers both win.
Don't Pass $5 wager pays $5, but the $12 lay odds wager pays $10. (the odds work backwards from the pass line. The player always "lays the odds" on a don't bet)
4 & 10 lay odds pay: 1 to 2
5 & 9 lay odds pay: 2 to 3
6 & 6 lay odds pay: 5 to 6

FIELD: FIELD is s self-service bet placed in front of the player in the FIELD box. The players on the dealers side of the table need to place their wager as close to them as possible since the field box does not wrap around the table layout.

The Field is the only one roll bet in the self-service area.
Pays 1 to 1 when the 3, 4, 9, 10 and 11 roll.
Pays 2 to 1 (double) when the 2 or 12 rolls.
Some casinos pay 3 to 1 for either the 2 or the 12.

Big 6: Big 6 or Corner red 6 is a self-service bet placed in the Big 6 box. Big 6 bet is always working and can be made at any time. Pays even money. The better bet is to place the 6 for a 7 to 6 payoff. But if you do not have a correct amount to place, go ahead and make the bet.
Big 8: Big 8 or Corner red 8 is self-service bet placed in the Big 8 box. Big 8 bet is always working and can be made at any time. Pays even money.
Don't Come: Don't Come is a self-service bet placed in the Don't Come box. Pays: 1 to 1. The Don't Come bet can be made ONLY while a point is established. The bet is moved to the don't box behind the point box number. The player can remove a don't come bet at any time.
Come: Come is a Self-service bet placed in the Come box. Pays: 1 to 1. The Come bet can be made ONLY while a point is established on a number. Once a come bet moves to a number box it can not be removed.

Service Bets

Point 4 Box: Buy 4 bets are placed in the point 4 box. Buy bets are normally off on the come out roll. Buy 4 Pays 2 to 1. Vigorish 5% of the Buy 4 wager.
Point 5 Box: Buy 5 bets are placed in the point 5 box. Buy bets are normally off on the come out roll. Buy 5 Pays 3 to 2. Vigorish 5% of the Buy 5 wager.
Point 6 Box: Buy 6 bets are placed in the point 6 box. Buy bets are normally off on the come out roll. Buy 6 Pays 6 to 5. Vigorish 5% of the Buy 6 wager.
Point 8 Box: Buy 8 bets are placed in the point 8 box. Buy bets are normally off on the come out roll. Buy 8 Pays 2 to 1. Vigorish 5% of the Buy 8 wager.
Point 9 Box: Buy 9 bets are placed in the point 9 box. Buy bets are normally off on the come out roll. Buy 4 Pays 2 to 1. Vigorish 5% of the Buy 9 wager.
Point 10 Box: Buy 10 bets are placed in the point 10 box. Buy bets are normally off on the come out roll. Buy 4 Pays 2 to 1. Vigorish 5% of the Buy 10 wager.
Place 4: Place bet for the #4 goes on the line between the Come box and the #4 and is placed on the layout according to your position at the table. Place 4 is a Service bet that must be placed by the dealer. Place 4 bets are NOT working on the come out roll. Place 4 bets can be made at any time.
Place 5: Place bet for the #5 goes on the line between the Come box and the #5. and is placed on the layout according to your position at the table. Place 5 is a Service bet placed by the dealer. Pays: 7 to 5 Place 5 bets are NOT working on the come out roll. Place 5 bets can be made at any time.
Place 6: Place bet for the #6 goes on the line between the Come box and the #6. and is placed on the layout according to your position at the table. Place 6 is a Service bet placed by the dealer. Pays: 7 to 6 Place 6 bets are NOT working on the come out roll. Place 6 bets can be made at any time.
Place 8: Place bet for the #8 goes on the line between the Come box and the #8. and is placed on the layout according to your position at the table. Place 8 is a Service bet placed by the dealer. Pays: 7 to 6 Place 8 bets are NOT working on the come out roll. Place 8 bets can be made at any time.

Don't 4 Box: Lay 4 bets are placed in the Don't 4 box. Lay 4 wagers Pay 1 to 2. Vigorish 5% of the Lay 4 wager's possible winnings.
Don't 5 Box: Lay 5 bets are placed in the Don't 5 box. Lay 5 wagers Pay 2 to 3. Vigorish 5% of the Lay 5 wager's possible winnings.
Don't 6 Box: Lay 6 bets are placed in the Don't 6 box. Lay 6 wagers Pay 5 to 6. Vigorish 5% of the Lay 6 wager's possible winnings.
Don't 8 Box: Lay 8 bets are placed in the Don't 8 box. Lay 8 wagers Pay 5 to 6. Vigorish 5% of the Lay 8 wager's possible winnings.
Don't 9 Box: Lay 9 bets are placed in the Don't 9 box. Lay 9 wagers Pay 2 to 3. Vigorish 5% of the Lay 9 wager's possible winnings.
Don't 10 Box: Lay 10 bets are placed in the Don't 10 box. Lay 10 wagers Pay 1 to 2. Vigorish 5% of the Lay 10 wager's possible winnings.
HORN: HORN One roll bet on the 2,3,11 and 12. Wager is split equally between the 4 numbers Pays: 3X the total wager if the 3 or 11 rolls Pays: 6.75X (or 7X the bet minus 1/4 of the bet) total wager if the 2 or 12 rolls. HORN bet can be made at any time.
E Circle (Eleven): E Circle (Eleven). Eleven is a Service bet placed by the stickman E stands for Eleven. It is a one roll bet on the 11. Pays: 15 to 1 (16 for 1) if the 11 rolls E Eleven bet can be made at any time.
C Circle (Craps): C Circle (Craps) Craps is a Service bet placed by the stickman C stands for Craps. It is a one roll bet on the three craps numbers 2,3 and 12. Pays: 7 to 1 (8 for 1) if a 2, 3 or 12 rolls C Craps bet can be made at any time.
C and E: C and E is a wager split between the Craps and Eleven. It is a Service bet placed by the stickman. It is placed in between the C and E circles so the wager covers both bets. C and E bet can be made at any time.
Seven: Seven. It is a Service bet placed by the stickman. It is a one roll bet on the number 7. Pays: 4 to 1 (5 for 1) The Seven bet can be made at any time.

Eleven: Eleven. It is a Service bet placed by the stickman. It is a one roll bet on the number 11. Pays: 15 to 1 (16 for 1) The Eleven bet can be made at any time.
