Craps: Multi Roll Bets
These bets are not one roll bets and may require a series of rolls before a decision is determined.

- PASS LINE
- PASS LINE is a self-service bet placed in front of the player in the PASS LINE box.
- Example: Come out Roll for Pass Line bet
- 7 or 11 Wins. called a natural. There are 8 ways to win from the combinations of the dice.
- 2, 3 or 12 loses. called a natural. There are 4 ways to lose from the dice combinations.
- If the come out roll is a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10, that becomes the current game's established POINT.
- For the Pass line to win, the POINT number now must roll before the 7 rolls.
- Points 4 & 10 have 3 ways to win and 6 ways to lose
- Points 5 & 9 have 4 ways to win and 6 ways to lose
- Points 6 & 8 have 5 ways to win and 6 ways to lose
- PASS LINE Odds
- PASS LINE Odds bet is a self-service bet placed an inch behind the pass line bet between the pass line wager and the player. Odds bet can ONLY be made after a point is established.
- Example: Point established is a 6. That happened with a roll of a 6 on the come out roll.
- Player can take Odds (from the table minimum to the table maximum odds factor)
- Player places $10 odds behind his $5 pass line bet.
- Six rolls and the pass line and odds wagers both win.
- Pass Line $5 wager pays $5, but the $10 odds wager pays $12. (does not sound like much but it is 20% more than being paid even money. More than what your bank pays you on your money!)
- 4 & 10 odds pay: 2 to 1
- 5 & 9 odds pay: 3 to 2
- 6 & 6 odds pay: 6 to 5
- Don't Pass
- Don't Pass is a self-service bet placed in front of the player in the Don't Pass box. This bet can ONLY be made on a come out roll.
Bar 12 (or bar 2 found in some northern Nevada casinos) means the bet is a standoff or a push. The bet does not win or lose.
- Example: Come out Roll for Don't Pass bet
- 7 or 11 - Loses.
- 2 or 3 - Wins.
- 12 is a push or tie.
- If the come out roll is a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10, that becomes the current game's established POINT.
- For the Don't Pass to win, the 7 must roll before the POINT number. The don't pass bettor ALWAYS wants a 7 to roll when there is a point established on any number.
- Point is 4 or 10 Don't Pass has 6 ways to win and 3 ways to lose
- Point is 5 or 9 Don't Pass has 6 ways to win and 4 ways to lose
- Point is 6 or 8 Don't Pass has 6 ways to win and 5 ways to lose
- Don't Pass Odds
- Don't Pass Odds Self-service odds bet placed next to the don't pass bet.
Odds bet can be removed at any time.
- Example: Point established is an 8. That happened with a roll of a 8 on the come out roll.
- Player can lay the Odds (from the table minimum to the table maximum odds factor)
- Player places $12 odds next to his $5 don't pass wager.
- Seven rolls and the don't pass and odds wagers both win.
- Don't Pass $5 wager pays $5, but the $12 lay odds wager pays $10. (the odds work backwards from the pass line. The player always "lays the odds" on a don't bet)
- 4 & 10 lay odds pay: 1 to 2
- 5 & 9 lay odds pay: 2 to 3
- 6 & 6 lay odds pay: 5 to 6
- Big 6
- Big 6 or Corner red 6 is a self-service bet placed in the Big 6 box. Big 6 bet is always working and can be made at any time. Pays even money.
- Big 8
- Big 8 or Corner red 8 is self-service bet placed in the Big 8 box. Big 8 bet is always working and can be made at any time. Pays even money.
- Don't Come
- Don't Come is a self-service bet placed in the Don't Come box. Pays: 1 to 1. The Don't Come bet can be made ONLY while a point is established. The bet is moved to the don't box behind the point box number.
- Come
- Come is a Self-service bet placed in the Come box. Pays: 1 to 1. The Come bet can be made ONLY while a point is established on a number. Once a come bet moves to a number box it can not be removed. All come bets are ALWAYS working and will lose on a come out roll winner 7.
Service Bets
- Buy bet
- Buy bets are "true odds bets" meaning the house payoff is exact according to their odds of rolling.
The house charges a 5% commission or vig up front on the amount of the bet at the time the bet is made. Some casinos only charge the vig after the bet has won.
- Buy on the 4 & 10 pays: 2 to 1. Example: Buy the 4 for $20. Vig charged is $1. Payout on a win is $40.
- Buy on the 5 & 9 pays: 3 to 2. Example: Buy the 5 for $20. Vig charged is $1. Payout on a win is $30.
- Buy on the 6 & 8 pays: 6 to 5. Example: Buy the 6 for $20. Vig charged is $1. Payout on a win is $24.
- Buy bets are not working on the come out roll.
- Place Bets
- Place bets are service bets that must be placed by the dealer.
Players can place any point number or groups of numbers (4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10) by placing their wager in the come area and telling the dealer how much and on what number(s), "30 on the 6", "5 on the 5", "27 across", "22 inside", "20 outside".
- Common Place bet groups are as follows:
- Across means to place all the numbers. The point number is not normally placed but it can be.
- Inside Numbers are the 5, 6, 8, and 9
- Outside Numbers are the 4, 5, 9 and 10
- Place the 6 & 8. Popular 2 number place bet group.
Place bets win when the number bet rolls before a 7 is rolled. It can only lose on a roll of 7.
- Place Bet Payoffs
- 4 & 10 pays 9 to 5
- 5 & 9 pays 7 to 5
- 6 & 8 pays 7 to 6
These bets are considered working bets, and will continue to be paid out each time a shooter rolls the place number.
Place bets by rule are not working on the come out roll but may be "turned on" by a request from the bettor.The History of the Place Bet
Place bets are actually put bets (a come bet that did NOT go through the Come box first) with 4 times odds on the outside numbers (4,5,9,10) and 5 times odds on the 6 & 8.
In the early days of casino bank craps there were NO place bets. The game of Craps was and still is a game of establishing points. If you wished to put a bet on a point number one would say "put 1 with 4 odds on the 5" or " 1 with 5 odds on the 8".
Place bets were created to speed up the game and make the bets on the layout cleaner.
A put bet on any point number would have a flat bet with 4 or 5 times odds on them. That is a lot of chips on the table if all players on one side are making put bets. One can just imagine the havoc created when a dice roll plowed into a number of different put bets with different flat and odds bets amounts.
The payouts paid exactly like a come bet with odds... thus the birth of the place bet.
5 pays 9 on the 4 & 10. (1 with 4 times odds = 1 + (4*2) = 9.)
5 pays 7 on the 5 & 9. (1 with 4 times odds = 1 + (4*1.5) = 7.)
6 pays 7 on the 6 & 8. (1 with 5 times odds = 1 + (5*1.2) = 7.)
Correct Units on the Place Bets
The place bets on the outside numbers (4,5,9,10) should be made in units of $5, (on a $5 minimum table), in order to receive the correct exact payout of $5 paying $7 or $5 paying $9.
The place bets on the 6 & 8 should be made in units of $6, (on a $5 minimum table), in order to receive the correct exact payout of $6 paying $7.
For ALL place bettors, the most common outcome of going across, inside or
outside with place bets is you will win zero place bets ( that is
right 0!) before you lose them all with a 7 out.
The
second most common outcome is you will win only 1, that is right,
ONE place bet before the 7 out rolls.
The
third most common outcome is you will win only 2 place bets, that is exactly right,
TWO place bets before the 7 out happens.

- Lay Bets

A lay bet is the opposite of a buy bet, where a player bets on a 7 to roll before the number that is laid.

Just like the buy bet, lay bets pay true odds, but because the lay bet is the opposite of the buy bet, the payout is reversed.

Therefore players get 1 to 2 for the numbers 4 and 10,

2 to 3 for the numbers 5 and 9,
-
and 5 to 6 for the numbers 6 and 8.

A 5% commission (vigorish, vig, juice) is charged up front on the possible winning amount.

For example: A $40 Lay Bet on the 4 would pay $20 on a win. The 5% vig would be $1 based on the $20 win. (NOT $2 based on the $40 bet as the way buy bet commissions are figured)
- Come Odds
- Come bet Odds bets are placed on top of a Come bet and slightly offset to show that there are two different bets. They pay exactly as pass line odds pay. The odds are not working on the come out roll.
- Don't Come Lay Odds
- Don't Come Lay Odds bets are placed next to a Don't Come bet in the Don't number box. They pay exactly as don't pass lay odds pay.
